Women’s Match Preview: Cork City (H)

Date: 22nd of March 2025
Kick-off: 7.30pm
Venue: Athlone Town Stadium

Athlone Town AFC showed class last week when they felt hard done by to be reduced to ten players towards the end of the game, a peno save and a huge reaction from the players saw the town hold on to get a point from a hard-fought game. Cork had a hugely impressive win at home to Sligo last week with the impressive Christina Dring getting a brace. Cork have three points and Athlone have four so its all to play for in this game as teams jockey for position in the early going in the league.

The game will kick off at 7.30pm.

Team News

Athlone Town AFC come into the game with a couple of injury concerns. Kerry Brown, Katelyn Keogh and Chloe Singleton are long term injuries, and it will be a while before we see them fit to play. Sarah Flannelly is out after she was taken off in the Presidents Cup due to injury. Kellie Brennan is suspended.

Past Encounters

Athlone Town and Cork have played twelve times with each team having a couple of wins and only one draw. There has been an average of 4 goals per game so this would indicate that both goalkeepers will be busy.

Key Players to Watch

For Athlone Town AFC Kelly Brady has proven herself to ready for Women’s Premier Division here and the former u19 international has one goal already this season and we hope she will hit plenty of more.

For Cork City Eva Mangan is one of the most exciting players in the Women’s Premier Division and the last time these teams played in Athlone Town Stadium she wasn’t available so Athlone Fans will be hoping to see her today
