Athlone Town AFC players selected on Women’s TOTY

The Athlone Town women’s team ended the season on a high following the dramatic victory in the FAI Women’s Cup last month, adding to their President’s Cup win at the start of the year.

During the recent PFA Ireland Awards for 2023, Dana Scheriff and her American counterpart Madison Gibson were named on the Women’s Premier Division Team of the Year.

Gibson recently committed to re-signing for the upcoming season, providing a significant boost to The Town’s plans for the 2024 campaign.

In the 2023 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division Awards held at the end of last month, Scheriff not only secured her place on the Team of the Year but also claimed the prestigious Golden Boot award as the league’s top scorer.

Dana Scheriff picks up TOTY & Golden Boot at LOIW Awards

It was a year to remember for Dana Scheriff scored a brace at this year’s end of season awards. In just her second season at The Town, she earned herself a place in the Women’s Premier Division Team of the Year and won the league’s Golden Boot award.

Dana’s last minute equaliser in the final League game of the season against Shamrock Rovers that ended in a 4-4 draw saw her reach the 13-goal mark to beat the Hoops’ Áine O’Gorman as the season’s top scorer.

The American native was also on the scoresheet in the FAI Women’s Cup Final that helped send The Town on their way to their first ever FAI Women’s Cup and first FAI Cup for the club in 99 years.

Having spent most of her debut season out injured, Scheriff certainly made her mark this year and her key goals won’t be forgotten. Both Dana and the club will look back on 2023 as a year of great success!
